Rules and regulations

Regular guidelines for use of the libraries

  • The libraries can be used by everyone
  • Usage of the libraries is usually free of charge
  • In the rules and regulations, the libraries consider people of ages 18 years old and above as "adults", and people of ages younger than 18 years old as "children"

Open libraries

The three libraries - Nakskov, Maribo and Rødbyhavn Library - are open to use 7 days a week from 7 am to 10 pm. To gain access to the libraries during unstaffed hours, you need to be an active user of the library. Read about how to become a library user in the link below.

Library card

  • The yellow health card usually functions as your library card. The yellow health card is also used as legitimation when you register as a library user. Registration can be done in the library during staffed hours, or digitally from home with MitID. (Read more here)
If you forget your pin code, you can also use MitID to log onto our website, where you can change your pin code.
  • Children and young adults younger than 18 years of age need to have written consent from a parent or legal guardian to become a library user. Children can optionally be given a separate library card, so they do not need to use their yellow health card. Consent can be given via a printed consent form obtainable during staffed hours. Alternatively consent can be given digitally with MitID. Read more about how to register a child as a library user here.
  • After initial registration - or if the e-mail adress is later changed - a verification-message is sent to ensure, that the e-mail adress is correct.
  • The yellow health card and library card are personal and needs to be used every time you borrow books.
  • If you lose your yellow health card/library card, please immediatly block your card by consulting our staff as to avoid any misuse.
  • You are personally responsible for any books/materials burrowed using your yellow health card/library card, before the card is blocked. This also applies if the card is left in the care of another person.
  •  Special rules and regulations apply to institutions working with children (schools, daycares etc.). Please contact the library if you want further information about being an institutional library user. If an employee of an institution working with children wants to register an institutional library user / library card, it is required to get consent/power of attorny from the institution's administration (find the consent form at the bottom of the page).

Pin code

  • To use the self-service machines at the library, a 4-digit pin code is required. This also applies to reserving and renewing books through our website.
  • You choose your own pin code, when you register as a library user.

Borrowing and loan period

  • All borrowed materials must be registered at the self-service machines.
  • The return date for every borrowed material appears on the receipt printed when borrowing materials.
  • The loan period for books and music is 30 days, unless they are noted as "kviklån", in which case you may borrow them for 15 days. The loan period for magasines, movies and video games is 14 days.
  • You can renew the loan period, if the material is not reserved to another library user. Most materials kan be renewed twice. Renewal can at the earliest take place 10 days before the return date.
  • When you return your materials, you can get a receipt documenting the return.
  • Borrowed materials may not be returned in the library's letter slot or mail box.
  • Information about borrowed materials is deleted, when the material is returned.
  • If materiales are returned late, you will get a late fee. This is also the case, if materials are renewed after the return date.
  • The library offers to send reminders of return dates via text message and/or e-mail. It is, however, the library user's own resposibility to ensure, that the material is returned before the loan period expires. This is also true in cases where no reminder-message was sent/received due to technical issues.

Please note! Always remember to update your contact information in our system, if it changes.

The library's treatment and processing of personal data complies with GDPR.

Reserving and requesting books

  • Most materials can be reserved.
  • Reserving materials is free of charge. You can at most have 50 active reservations/requests at once!
  • Materials, the library itself does not posses, can be requested to be acquired from other danish libraries. This is free of charge for the library user. If materials are requested from abroad, the library user must pay any connected costs.

Fees

  • If a material is returned late, it is required to pay a late fee.
  • After 14 days past the return date has passed, you will receive a recall-message.
  • 5 weeks past the return date, you will receive a bill.
  • The bill will be sent for collection, when the loan period is expired by 7 weeks. When a bill is transferred to collection, a mandatory collection fee is added.

  • Unpaid fees exceeding 200,- kr. can be collected by withholding income etc. in accordance with the rules set by the Danish Ministry of Taxation.
  • The fee rates apply to materials with the same borrow and return date.

Compensation / replacement fees

  • Materials not returned, or returned in damaged condition, must be compensated. The library decides the cost of replacement of the damaged/lost material.
  • DVDs, CDs or video games are expensive to acquire for library use due to copyright laws. Therefore  replacement costs for these types of materials may be high. If a DVD is damaged or stolen while in the care of the library user, special rules for compensation may apply. These rules only apply if the library user can provide documentation in the form of either a police report for theft or a report to an insurance company.
  • If a volume of a multi-volume series is lost or damaged, and if it is only possible to acquire the volume through getting the whole series, the library may request compensation for the whole series.
  • The library keeps its ownership rights to the materials - also in case of compensation. Therefore any lost materials must be returned, if they are found. The replacement costs (minus any related fees) can be refunded for up to at year, if a receipt is provided.
  • If a year has passed since the due date, and the cost of replacement and any fees related to the lost material have yet to be paid, the library keeps its claim to the compensation of cost of replacement as well as any related fees.

Lost materials

If a borrowed material cannot be found, please contact the library before the return date is due. We can pause the loan period for a set amount of time so that no fees will be added in this time period. Fees will, however, be added when this time period is over. Please contact the library again, if the material is still not found.

Banning

  • Library users that repeatedly do not return borrowed materials or return materials in damaged condition, can be banned from borrowing materials.
  • Library users that owe 200 kr. or more in fees are banned from borrowing, until the debt is paid.
  • Library users that fail to act in an orderly and respectful manner in the library's space or fail to follow the directions of the library staff, may be banned. This is also the case if the library user fails to follow the library's set rules and regulations.

Usage of the library's facilities

  • It is not allowed to smoke in the library
  • It is not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages in the library
  • Food and drink may only be consumed with permission from staff
  • Dogs and other animals are not allowed in the library (with the exception of service dogs)
  • When using the library's computers, the library's rules for ethical internet usage apply:

  • Rules for ethical internet usage:

    • LollandBibliotekerne provides free access to the Internet with the intention of giving all citizens equal access to the information and means of communication, that the Internet provides.
    • The library's computers may not be used to consume content that is pornographic, racist or in other ways offensive in nature! If you unwillingly enter a page with such content, please immediately get off this page (If possible, contact the library staff).
    • The computers are placed in an open space. This is intentionel from the library's side, as it enables the staff to keep an eye out for and intervene, if the computers are misused in the above mentioned way. This, however, is not an invitation for others to uninvitedly spy and/or pry into other's usage of the computers. Everyone must follow good etiquette on the Internet and in the library space!
    • Regular danish and international laws and rules regarding copyright and copying must be followed. Any violation of the above mentioned rules may result in sanctions in the form of banning or quarantine.
    • Above mentioned rules also apply, when the library's wi-fi is used.
  • It costs money to use the library's printer and copy machine. See prices for printing here.
  • The library staff's directions must be followed during your stay in the library's spaces.
  • The library's alarm turns on between 22 pm and  7 am. If you are in the library during this time period, the alarm will activate and a watchman will be sent to the location. The alarm can also be set off if a window is left open. In both cases, the person(s) causing the alarm to go off will be held responsible for the related costs.
